Larry Ellison Biography and Success Story - The Founder of Oracle

Hey guy's today in this post we will read and come to know about the biography of Larry Ellison - the founder of Oracle and his success story and I hope you will like it.

Lawrence Joseph Ellison known as Larry Ellison is an American businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who is co-founder, executive chairman and chief technology officer of Oracle Corporation.

Famous college dropout, Ellison built Oracle, one of the most valuable tech brands in the world. The company specializes in database technology and enterprise application software.

In 2015, Ellison announced Oracle would expand its cloud computing business. At present, Larry Ellison serves as executive chairman and chief technology officer of Oracle, having stepped down as CEO in September 2014.

As of January 2018, he was listed by Forbes magazine as the fifth(5) - wealthiest person in the United States and as the eighth(8) - wealthiest in the world, with a fortune of $60.5 billion.

This famous IT entrepreneur and co-founder of a renowned IT company also made a cameo appearance in the Hollywood movie ‘Iron Man 2’ in 2010.

About Larry Ellison

Larry Ellison was born on 17 August, 1944 in New York City , to an unmarried Jewish mother. His biological father was an Italian American United States Army Air Corps pilot.

He developed pneumonia when he was 9 months old, which is why his mother gave him to her aunt and uncle for adoption. He did not meet his biological mother again until he was 48.

He was brought up on the south side of New York City and did not know until 12 that he was adopted. He attended the Eugene Field Elementary School in Chicago and later went to Sullivan High School.

He remembers his adoptive mother as warm and loving, in contrast to his austere, unsupportive. His adoptive father, Louis Ellison, had a small real estate business in Chicago but lost all of that during the Great Depression. Young Ellison did not go along very well with him as he was distant and unaccommodating.

Although Ellison was raised in a religious household and often attended synagogue but he grew up to become a religious skeptic who did not believe in the conventional religious dogmas. He refused to have a bar mitzvah celebration when he was 13.

Ellison studied at the University of Illinois but dropped out of college when his adoptive mother passed away. Later he went to the University of Chicago but soon dropped out of there too.

Ellison has been married 4 times. His first marriage was with Adda Quinn (1967-74); second to Nancy Wheeler Jenkins (1977-78), then to Barbara Boothe (1983-86) and had two children: David and Megan, and fourth to Melanie Craft (2003-2010).

Career - The Foundation of Oracle

After dropping out of the university, Ellison, during 1970s, started working with the Ampex Corporation. He worked to develop databases, in particular for CIA; a program that he named ‘Oracle’.

According to Ellison , the CIA was their first customer, tasking Ellison and his team with building this new database. The project was code-named Oracle.

In 1977, he founded his own company under the name of ‘Software Development Laboratories (SDL)’. He started it with two other partners and invested about 2000 US dollars in it, initially.

In the late ‘70s and early ’80, he renamed his company as ‘Relational Software Inc.’, which went on to become ‘Oracle Systems Corporation’, named after its patent invention ‘Oracle’ database.

He wanted his creation Oracle to achieve compatibility with the newly formed IBM System Inc., which was like Oracle based on Codd’s theories, but IBM refused to share System R’s code.

In 1990, Oracle started losing money in the business and laid off about 10% of its working staff. This situation emerged due to Oracle’s marketing techniques.

In 1994, Informix overhauled Sybase and became Oracle’s most important competition in the software market. The rivalry between the heads of the two companies - Phil White (Informix) and Ellison - was hyped in the media for years.

Eventually, Informix announced its bankruptcy and Phil White ended in jail; his company was absorbed by IBM in 2001.

Around the same time, Ellison who was also working as the director of Apple Computer for about 5 years now, resigned.

After Informix and Sybase were defeated in the competition, Oracle went through a period of dominance and success until Microsoft SQL Server and IBM overtook the market.

It is said that by 2005, Ellison was making a salary of $975,000 with $6,500,00 in bonus and $955,100 compensations, which eventually became $56.8 million during the late 2000s. He was ranked as the richest Californian.

In 2010, Oracle’s takeover of Sun
Microsystems was granted by the European Union. This gave Oracle the control of the popular MySQL open source database.

In the same year, Mark Hurd (ex-CEO of HP) was hired as Co-President by Ellison.

In the late 2000s, Ellison was estimated to be of net worth of $28 billion. ‘The Wall Street Journal’ reported him to be the best-paid executive.

Awards & Achievements

Ellison's yacht USA 17 won the second race of the 33rd America's Cup.

He and his BMW Oracle team returned to America from Spain in 2010 with the title, for the first time in more than a decade.

So guy's this was the success story of Larry Ellision, I hope you enjoyed reading it and liked it.

Bloomberg Billionaires Index listed Bezos as one of the wealthiest people in the world with an estimated net worth of $28 billion. Harvard Business Review ranked him the second best CEO in the world.

About Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos was born on January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Jacklyn Gise and Ted Jorgensen. His mother’s ancestors were settlers who lived in Texas, and had acquired a 25,000-acre ranch near Cotulla over the generations. As of March 2015, Bezos was among the largest landholders in Texas.

After marriage, Miguel Bezos legally adopted Jeff. The family then moved to Houston, Texas, where Miguel became an engineer for Exxon.

Jeff  Bezos displayed remarkable mechanical talent from an early age, which fits well with his varied scientific interests. As a toddler, he had managed to dismantle his crib with a screwdriver and as a teen, he had developed an electric alarm to keep younger siblings out of his room. His parents eventually asked him to move all his stuff to their garage which he converted into a laboratory for his science projects.

Rajinikanth Biography, Wiki and his Success Story to a Super Star

January 09, 2018 0

Rajinikant Biography and his Journey to a Bus Conductor to Super Star

Hey guy's in this post we will read about biography and the success story of Indian Super Star Rajinikanth, his journey from a bus conductor to a super star and I hope you will like it.

Shivaji Rao Gaekwad known as his stage name Rajinikanth, is an Indian film actor, who primarily works in Tamil cinema. He began acting in plays while working in the Bangalore Transport Service(BTS) as a bus conductor. In 1973, he joined the Madras Film Institute to pursue a diploma in acting. He made his debut in K. Balachander's Tamil drama Apoorva Raagangal (1975), his acting career commenced with a brief phase of portraying antagonistic characters in Tamil films. He is also an Producer, Screenplay Writer and Philanthropist.

Rajinikanth was born on 12 December 1950, in a Maratha family in Bangalore, Mysore State (Now Karnataka). His father Ramoji Rao Gaekwad, was a police constable and mother Jijabai a housewife. He is the youngest of four siblings in a family consisting of two elder brothers (Satyanarayana Rao and Nageshwara Rao) and a sister (Aswath Balubhai).

After his father's retirement from work in 1956, the family moved to the suburb of Hanumantha nagar in Bangalore and built a house there. When he was nine years old, he lost his mother and did only till high school in Ramakrishna Mission.

Rajinikanth married to Latha Rangachari on 26 February 1981, a student of Ethiraj College for Women, who interviewed him for her college magazine, in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The couple has two daughters named Aishwarya Rajinikanth and Soundarya Rajinikanth.

Career : His Journey from Bus Conductor to a Super Star

Rajinikanth worked as a coolie and then started his career as a bus conductor at BTS. He developed his style first here, in issueing  tickets and whistling  which made him a popular figure with public and other drivers and conductors in BTS. Like the majority, the craze for cinema made him leave the job and join Adyar Institute at Chennai. He began to take part in stage plays after Kannada playwright Topi Muniappa offered him a chance to act in one of his mythological plays.

During that time, he came across an advertisement issued by the newly formed Madras Film Institute which offered acting courses. Though his family was not fully supportive of his decision to join the institute, his friend and co-worker Raj Bahadur motivated him to join the institute and financially supported him during this phase.

During his stay at the institute, he was performing in a stage play and got noticed by Tamil film director K. Balachander. The director advised him to learn to speak Tamil, a recommendation that Rajinikanth quickly followed.

In 1975 when he was about 25 years, ace director K Balachander introduced him at Apoorva Raagangal a movie ahead of its time. K Balachander signed him for his banner the next day after meeting him at the Adyar Institute. That was an opportunity of the lifetime because K Balachander has created a whole new generation of actors including Kamalhasan by then.

K. Balachander, who is constantly referred to by Rajinikanth as his own guru or mentor. The following year, he acted in his first Kannada film, Katha Sangama, directed by Puttanna Kanagal. Though Rajinikanth refers to director K. Balachander as his "guru" or mentor, it was director S. P. Muthuraman who actually revamped Rajinikanth’s image entirely.

Rajinikanth has acted in a total 190 movies, which includes Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, English and Bengali films. Rajinikanth made a foray into Bollywood with Andha Kanoon but did not make as much of an impact as he had in the south. He still appeared a few films in Hindi, viz. Chaalbaaz, Uttar Dakshan, Geraftaar and Hum.

He also act in Hollywood movie. He made his Hollywood debut with the movie Bloodstone in 1988 with much fanfare in India at the time of its release. However, the movie failed in the United States.

The acceptance of Rajinikanth sans his mannerisms proved he had at last become a "star" from a "common actor." His film roles were mainly as a villain during the period 1975 to 1977, frequently with Kamal Haasan as the hero, in movies like 16 Vayadhinilae, Moondru Mudichu and Avargal.

During this phase of his career when he was reaching dazzling heights, Rajinikanth abruptly chose to quit acting, but was coaxed back. He started again with Billa, which was then remaked as a blockbuster bollywood movie Don. With its phenomenal success he was accepted as a full-fledged hero.

Rajnikanth has often been referred to as the most popular film actor in South India by the media and audiences. In 2015, a film about his fandom, For the Love of a Man, premiered at the 71st Venice International Film Festival. His popularity has been attributed to "his uniquely styled dialogues and idiosyncrasies in films, as well as his political statements and philanthropy".

Rajinikanth has received numerous awards for many of his films, mostly in Tamil viz. Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, Cinema Express, Filmfans Association for his on-screen performances and off-screen contributions in writing and producing.

His mass popularity and appeal is largely drawn from his mannerisms and stylized delivery of dialogue. He received India's third highest honour, the Padma Bhushan, for his contribution to Indian cinema.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering he decided to concentrate on computer engineering at Stanford University, where he met Sergey Brin.

Career and Success Story - How He Found Google??

Larry Page met co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin, while both of them were studying for a PhD in computer science at Stanford University.

Page was interested in exploring the mathematical properties of the World Wide Web (WWW) and his tutor encouraged him to pursue this as the topic of his thesis.

He decided and wanted to work out how many pages link back to any other given web page – something that was impossible to establish previously – taking his inspiration from the academic process of citing sources.

In order to do this, he created a web crawler called BackRub that was designed to examine the 10 million pages and innumerable additional documents that made up the web at that time.

In 1998, as a research project at Stanford University, Page and Brin created a search engine that listed results according to the popularity of the pages, after concluding that the most popular result would often be the most useful. They called the search engine "Google" after the mathematical term "Googol," which refers to the No. 1 followed by 100 zeros, this represented the vast amount of data that the search engine was intended to explore.

After raising $1 million from family, friends and other investors, the they launched the company in 1998. Google has since become the world's most popular search engine, receiving an average of 5.9 billion searches per day in 2013. Headquartered in the heart of California's Silicon Valley, Google held its initial public offering in August 2004, making Page and Brin billionaires.

In the year 2006, Google purchased the most popular website for user-submitted streaming videos, YouTube, for $1.65 billion in stock.

In September 2013, Page was ranked No. 13 on the "Forbes 400" list of the richest people in America. As the CEO of Google, Page shared responsibility for the company's day-to-day operations with Brin, who served as director of special projects for Google, and Eric Schmidt, the company's executive chairman.

In the year of 2015, August 10, Page and Brin announced the creation of a new parent company called Alphabet to oversee Google and other subsidiaries. Page and Brin were set to serve as the new company's CEO and president, respectively, with Sundar Pichai stepping in as Google's top executive.

Though the financial position of the Mittal family was good enough, Sunil did not want to follow his father's footsteps and started a business at a very early age.

He first joined the Wynberg Allen School in Mussoorie, but later attended Scindia School at Gwalior and he graduated in 1976 from Panjab University, Chandigarh, with a Bachelor of Arts and Science for which he studied in Arya College, Ludhiana.

In 1984, he started assembling push-button phones in India, which he earlier used to import from a Taiwan company, Kingtel, replacing the old fashioned, bulky rotary phones that were in use in the country. Then, that was the time when Bharti Telecommunication Limited (BTL) was incorporated and tied up in a technical bond with the Siemens AG of Germany for the manufacture of these push button phones.

By the early 1990s, Sunil was making fax machines, cordless phones and other telecom gear. 'Mitbro' was his first push button phones.

In 1992, he successfully bid for one of the four mobile phone network licences auctioned in India. He was one of the first Indian entrepreneurs to identify the mobile telecom business as a major growth area.

Once his ideas and plan of actions were approved by the government in 1994, Bharti Cellular Limited (BCL) was founded in 1995 and the brand 'Airtel' was launched. Within a few years Bharti became the first telecom company to cross the 2-million mobile subscriber mark. Bharti also brought down the STD/ISD cellular rates in India under brand name 'Indiaone'.

To create Bharti Telecmmunication, Mittal even attracted many key executives from Reliance ADAG, NIS Sparta. In a short span of time, he morphed into a national player, became the country's largest telecom service provider with over 200 million customers, and expanded his footprint to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and even Africa.

Bill Gates Biography and his  Success Story : The Microsoft Co-founder

Today, in this post I will tell you the biography of Microsoft Co-founder Bill Gates and his Success Story and I hope you will like it.

Bill Gates is a prominent American entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist with a terrific career in a development of software for personal-computers. Bill Gates founded the world's largest software business, Microsoft, with Paul Allen, and subsequently he became one of the richest men in the world.

About Bill Gates

Bill Gates full name is William Henry Gates III. He was born on 28 October, 1955 in Seattle, Washington, U.S. His father William H. Gates Sr.- a successful attorney and his mother Mary Maxwell Gates was a former school teacher, who later became a member of the Board of Directors of the First Interstate Bank. Gates's maternal grandfather was J.W. Maxwell, a national bank president. Gates has one elder sister, Kristi (Kristianne), and one younger sister, Libby. He is the fourth of his name in his family, but is known as William Gates III or "Trey" because his father had the "II" suffix.

Being a child, Bill Gates already possessed a prospective businessman talent, especially in mathematics. However, the family expected Bill Gates to follow his father’s steps and enter Harvard Law School.

In 1968, when Bill and his high school friend Paul Allen went to middle school, the school administration decided to buy a computer time from the General Electric Company. At that time, the system based on DEC PDP-10 micro-architecture was a basis on the market. Later, he said: “When I was thirteen, my school (Lakeside School) installed a teletype machine. From that point on, my friends and I spent most of our free time writing programs and figuring out how to make the computer to do interesting things.”

The Rise Of  Microsoft Company

In June, 1975, Bill Gates creates a company for software development and names it Microsoft (the first version was Micro-Soft). Despite of the hard work of its employees, the company at first experienced some difficulties with distribution of any software products. The company did not have enough money to hire a good sales manager, so this function was performed by Bill Gates’ mother Mary Maxwell Gates.

Early next year, Gates and Allen found out that the income of the company has dropped to the lowest affordable point. Its main reason was so called ‘piracy’ – illegal copying of software and the use of it without permission of the creator. Many people simply copied the MS-Basic and handed it to someone else. Realizing this, Bill Gates was furious, especially because ‘piracy’ was depriving him from the well-earned income. In addition, these copies contained some mistakes which he wanted to reduce before the formal release of MS-Basic. Gates wrote an open letter in February 1976, which was published in a newsletter for Altair users. In response, the Gates Foundation has received 300 letters, but only a few of them contained a check.

Bill Gates was the very first to state the need in a protection of the software. His actions have made an incredible contribution to the gradual introduction of a thought that a computer program is a product of creativity and therefore must be protected in the same way as a musical composition or a literary work.

Microsoft began to expand and specialize in languages such as Basic, Cobol, Fortan and  Pascal. With this expansion and Microsoft having hit the one million dollar profit margin mark, that was a matter of time until a big-shot computer creative company came knocking at their door. That company was IBM. The partnership IBM and Microsoft developed was a pivotal role which defined technology, to what it has become today. IBM wanted an operating system for their new line of personal computers. Bill Gates bought an operating system in which he renamed, MS-DOS for IBM.

Microsoft launched its first retail version of Microsoft Windows on November 20, 1985. In August of the following year, the company struck a deal with IBM to develop a separate operating system called OS/2. Although the two companies successfully developed the first version of the new system, the partnership deteriorated due to mounting creative differences. Microsoft Windows would be come one of the most used operating systems in history, and one of the most advanced.

In 1986, Microsoft entered the IPO market and during just one day one share cost grew up from $22 to $28 dollars. Microsoft started to dominate an entire industry – it owned about 44 percent of all profits software market. In 1993, the user of Microsoft Windows reached 25 million people in number. Thus, Windows becomes the most popular operating system in the world with a graphical interface.

In 1995 the Microsoft Corporation introduced Windows 95 and just in one year, 25 Million copies of Windows 95 were sold. In 1996-97, the company launched the next generation of Microsoft Windows NT (4.0 and 5.0), which were significantly modified, compared to the first version of the software.

In 1998 Windows 98 was  introduced with the additional modification of internal functions. After that Microsoft creates Windows 2000, which later being called the best Corporate Operating System.

Windows Vista was released on January 30, 2007. It had the strongest security system ever and a matching Office suite, Microsoft Office 2007. Windows 7 was built for the wireless world which arose in the late 2000s. By the time of its release, laptops were outselling desktops, and it had become common to connect to public wireless networks in coffee shops and private one at home.

In 2012, Windows 8 introduced major changes to the operating system’s platform in order to improve its user experience on tablets, where Windows was now competing with mobile operating systems, including Android and iOS. In particular, these changes included a touch-optimized Windows shell based on Microsoft’s Metro design, the Start, and other innovations.

In 2013 Windows 8.1 was released. Windows 10 wes released in July 2015. It includes Edge browser, the new Microsoft browser that substitutes Internet Explorer. Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 during the first year ater the release.

Bill Gates changed the way the world operates, functions, Gates made life easier for humans to live in. To get tasks done within seconds at a time, creating several multitasking software programs.

In addition to being one of the richest and most successful businessmen in the history of the world, Bill Gates has also received numerous awards for philanthropic work. The magazine also named Gates and his wife Melinda, along with rock band U2's lead singer, Bono, as the 2005 Persons of the Year.
