Vijaya Gurunatha Sethupathi popularly known as Vijay Sethupathi, is an Indian film actor, producer, screenwriter, lyricist and playback singer. He mainly works in Tamil films. He did many odd jobs before taking acting as his career and it took seven years for him to get a breakthrough. Until then, Vijay appeared only in small roles.

Vijay Sethupathi was born on 16 January, 1978 in Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu, India. Vijay Sethupathi was raised in Rajapalayam until he moved to Chennai in class six. He started his film career working as a background actor, playing minor supporting roles for over five years, before playing his first lead role in Seenu Ramasamy's Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010). He went through lots of struggles to get to where he has reached now.

He studied at the MGR Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam, Chennai and then went to Dhanraj Baid (D.B.) Jain College in Thoraipakam, Chennai and graduted with a B.Com degree. According to him, he was a "below-average student right from school" and was neither interested in sports nor extra-curricular activities.

He had worked in many films viz. Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, Sundarapandian, Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum, Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, Sethupathi, Iraivi, Rekka, Kavan Vikram Vedha, Karuppan, etc.
